I try to learn some others, but getting old puts a limit on what i can do in 1 sitting. I do learn "do you speak english", Hi/Hello, Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and thank you and toilet. Im not not even close to fluent in any language and i get buy. Not sure how much Spanish/Portugese you know, but if you know some you can get by. I havent tried using GT offline, but i think you can use some of the features offline. I get lost and turned around easy, so i need my google maps to get me oriented. I can see why you want offline too, but to me getting a PAYG sim that works in most of S.AMerica isn't a big deal and the one i get for S. You can look at other apps if you want, but for now, i just use google. In my lifetime, i would have never thought i would see something like this or yet alone be able to use it. Text/photos can be "real time" or "scanned", but to me, way too cool. Google translate can do voice/speach, text and photos. TO me, if you could put it in some glasses or VR device, it would be like 1 or 2 steps away from a Star Trek Universal Translator. I use google translate and i think its the cats meow. Im not sure why you wont go "online" for this. Considering the limited time I wish to purchase one by the end of the month. I really appreciate your comments on any device that you may know about or have some experience with any of them. It would be advantageous if it can also translate “text” such as road signs, warning signs and more importantly restaurant “menu” items.ĭear travellers and TA forum specialist. It would be better if I can find a device which can translate “Speech” as a starting point. I am not inclined to go for any online or internet based “apps” to be used with Mobile phone. I like to see some independent reviews by few travellers who may have used them during the past two years or so. I have seen few reviews on many types of devices( some are too old). We are considering buying some electronic two ways translation devises as soon as possible. As we are travelling on our own, language is going to be a big issue. We will travel to South America where Spanish (Brazilian) and some variation of Portuguese are spoken. ![]()
